In 2019 at the Contemporary Arts Center in Veurne, Kosen Solar produced “Emergence”, an open to the public prototype presentation of the initial developments of two different Solar Synths. A Solar Synth uses a solar panel’s photovoltaic cells to generate sound. The conceptualisation and production of an audio visual instrument that uses light to generate sound was the main focus of this particular production.
The use of small and cheap photovoltaic solar panels to generate the Kosen Solar sounds, imposes certain limitations which in turn become true opportunities, conceptually and practically. As a result of using light to generate sound, the instrument lends itself to researching the immersive value of synchronised stimuli.
Researching the immersive value of synchronised stimuli. By stimulating the visual cortex, auditory cortex and to some extent the primary somatosensory cortex at similar frequencies, three of our primary senses are captivated by the experience, leaving little room for those senses to wander, projecting the audience in an immersive state. Immersivity through Synchronization.
